Open Learning Session #1: Cybersecurity & Interoperability in the EHDS
This first Open Learning Session explores cybersecurity challenges arising from increased interoperability within the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
As health data sharing expands across Europe, ensuring privacy, security and trust becomes essential for sustainable digital health ecosystems.
Part of the XiA 2026 Micro-Training Program, focused on cybersecurity, privacy and AI security within the EHDS framework.
About this session
This inaugural Open Learning Session brings together leading European experts to explore the evolving cybersecurity landscape in digital health.
The session examines how increased interoperability — a core objective of the European Health Data Space — introduces new security risks and governance challenges. Speakers share insights from major EU-funded initiatives, including CYLCOMED, SECURED EU and xShare, addressing:
- Privacy-preserving mechanisms for secure health data sharing
- Identity management and decentralised access control
- AI security risks, including adversarial attacks and backdoor vulnerabilities
- Cross-border cybersecurity challenges linked to EHDS interoperability
Delivered as a 60-minute session, it provides both strategic perspective and practical considerations for strengthening resilience in interoperable health systems.
Why it matters
Interoperability accelerates health data exchange — yet every new connection increases exposure to security risks.
As the EHDS advances, cybersecurity, data protection and AI governance must be embedded by design. This session highlights why secure-by-design approaches are essential to ensure that interoperable health systems remain trustworthy, resilient and sustainable.
