About XiA
The Xpanding Innovative Alliance (XiA) project, is co-funded by the Erasmus + Programme, Alliances for Innovation – Lot 2: Alliances for Sectoral Cooperation on Skills (implementing the ‘Blueprint’), and represents a significant milestone in digital healthcare. Building on the foundations of the successful XpanDH project, XiA seeks to address key interoperability challenges while preparing healthcare professionals for the advanced standards of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation. It is linked with the Pact for Skills, that aims to get public and private organisations together and encourage them to make concrete commitments to upskilling and reskilling adults.
Building on the success of XpanDH
The XiA project builds on the solid foundation established by XpanDH, which pioneered scalable training solutions in healthcare interoperability. By leveraging the networks and resources developed during XpanDH, XiA focuses on broadening educational frameworks and delivering practical, real-world applications. The project’s goal is to develop and disseminate high-quality training materials and courses, empowering healthcare professionals, IT providers, and digital health solution developers with the skills needed to embrace EHDS-related standards and promote a culture of interoperability.
Bridging the skills gap in digital health
As a trailblazing initiative in digital health, XiA addresses the critical need for harmonized and advanced interoperability skills within the healthcare sector. Through innovative educational methods, the project aims to bridge the existing skills gap among IT professionals, healthcare providers, and implementers of the EHDS and the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF). By fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing, XiA will significantly contribute to building a more efficient, integrated, and patient-centered European healthcare ecosystem.

EHDS & interoperability
The European Health Data Space (EHDS) aims to promote better exchange and access to health data across Europe to improve healthcare delivery, research, and policy-making. Ensuring interoperability between diverse health information systems is crucial to achieving this vision, as it enables seamless data sharing and integration while maintaining data security and patient privacy.

Project outcomes
Strengthen digital transformation, interoperability, and cybersecurity skills among healthcare and IT professionals across Europe by developing engaging educational content and micro-credentials in partnership with universities and health networks. Ensure training quality and recognition through a structured accreditation and credentialing framework.
