XiA (Xpanding Innovative Alliance) is a European project supporting the implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) by strengthening interoperability skills across the health and digital health ecosystem.
Interoperability is not only about standards and technologies. It also depends on people being able to understand, apply, and evolve them in real-world settings. XiA addresses this challenge by combining EHDS-aligned interoperability expertise with innovative education and training concepts.
The project develops new ways of learning and recognising interoperability skills, based on:
- modular and reusable learning building blocks,
- flexible micro-learning pathways adapted to different professional profiles,
- practical, standards-based content grounded in real use cases,
- and progressive recognition of skills through micro-credentials.
Together, these concepts form a coherent framework that helps professionals, educators, and organisations build interoperability capacity over time—at their own pace and according to their needs.
This section presents the key concepts underpinning the XiA approach. Each concept is introduced in its own dedicated page.
