The XiA Faculty: the experts behind the learning

Great interoperability training cannot be written in a vacuum. It is built by the people who design, implement and live these standards every day. Meet the XiA Faculty — the community of experts shaping XiA’s educational content.

The XiA project is building an open library of Micro-Content Learning Blocks (MCLBs), organised into 20 Families that cover the standards, systems and semantics at the heart of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). For that content to be genuinely useful, it has to be accurate, practical and recognisable to the professionals who will use it. That is exactly what the XiA Faculty is for.

What is the XiA Faculty?

The XiA Faculty is a community of leading subject-matter experts — one cluster of specialists for each of the 20 Families. Faculty members help co-create, review and validate XiA’s learning blocks and micro-courses, making sure the content reflects real-world practice rather than theory alone. They are, in effect, the guest designers and master tailors of the XiA library.

Because XiA is an EU co-funded, open-access initiative, the Faculty runs on a non-financial model. There is no fee and no payment involved. Instead, it is built on a clear exchange of value: experts share their pedagogical and industry insight, and in return XiA offers visibility, recognition and access to a network that is hard to find anywhere else.

Three ways to take part

Experts are busy, so involvement is deliberately flexible. You choose the tier that matches the time you can give — and you can always move between them.

  • Guest Designers — high involvement
    • Actively co-create learning blocks or teach live webinars. You become the face of a specific micro-course.
  • Master Tailors / Reviewers — medium involvement
    • Review raw materials, validate the pedagogical approach and make sure content meets professional standards before it goes live.
  • Brand Ambassadors — light involvement
    • Lend your name and credibility — a short video interview, or letting us curate your existing open-access materials into the XiA library.

What Faculty members gain

The Faculty is designed to give back as much as it asks. Members receive:

  • European visibility — a profile on a dedicated XiA Faculty page, with your bio, photo and the content you helped shape.
  • Verifiable digital credentials — shareable badges identifying you as an XiA Faculty Member or expert contributor for your Family.
  • Co-authorship and EU recognition — a formal Letter of Appointment or Certificate of Contribution to a multinational, EU co-funded initiative.
  • An exclusive network — access to the wider Faculty through a closed group and invitation-only roundtables, where the real value is each other.

Part of a wider community

The Faculty does not stand alone. It sits close to the core of the broader XiA Community of Practice (CoP) — the space where education, implementation and policy meet across the whole project. Many people will start in the Community of Practice and move into the Faculty as their engagement deepens. Both share the same goal: a Europe better equipped to make health data work across borders.

Contributing should never feel like a second job. Faculty members bring their knowledge — a set of slides, a short recording, a conversation — and the XiA pedagogical team takes care of the rest: turning that raw expertise into a polished, accredited learning block. Onboarding is light, support is hands-on, and we close the loop by sharing how your content performs once it reaches learners.
