The Xpanding Innovative Alliance (XiA), in collaboration with Hospitals on FHIR and HL7 Europe, is pleased to announce the launch of a new 2026 webinar series entitled “Implement the EU Lab Report in Your Hospital.”
This flagship series is designed to support hospitals, laboratories, and health IT vendors in preparing for the European Health Data Space (EHDS) by providing structured, practical, and accessible guidance on interoperability standards and data exchange requirements.

Why This Series Matters
The EHDS represents a major transformation in how health data will be structured, shared, and reused across Europe. For healthcare organisations, this means moving beyond fragmented or document-based data exchange toward standardised, interoperable, and reusable health data.
Laboratory data is one of the priority health data domains identified at European level. While many organisations already produce electronic lab results, EHDS readiness requires more than digitisation: it requires alignment with common data categories, terminologies, and exchange formats, including the European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) and standards such as HL7 FHIR.
The “Implement the EU Lab Report in Your Hospital” webinar series addresses this challenge by translating complex regulatory and technical concepts into short, focused learning sessions, designed to fit into the daily constraints of healthcare and IT professionals.
A Structured Learning Journey (February–December 2026)

Each webinar in the series focuses on one key topic, following a logical progression:
- EHDS and health data categories
- Medical terminologies (LOINC, SNOMED CT, UCUM)
- HL7 FHIR foundations
- Implementation Guides and logical models
- The HL7 Europe Laboratory Report Implementation Guide
- FHIR mappings and legacy integration (HL7 v2 → FHIR)
- Hospital and vendor implementation experience
- Strategic outlook and next steps
All sessions are delivered as short, live webinars and recorded for replay. They are complemented by website articles, micro-learning content, and social media publications as part of XiA’s Micro-Training Capsule approach.
First Session: EHDS and Health Data Categories
The webinar series kicks off with an introductory session focused on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and its health data categories.
Rather than starting with technical standards, this first session establishes the regulatory and conceptual foundation needed to understand the rest of the series.

What the session will cover
- What the EHDS is and what it aims to achieve
- The concept of priority health data categories under EHDS
- Which types of data are concerned (and which are not)
- How data categories relate to interoperability requirements
- Why understanding data scope is essential before implementation
This session is designed for participants who want a clear, neutral overview of the EHDS, regardless of their technical background.
